NessCampbell Crane + Rigging

FAQs

What type of crane is right for my construction project?

It depends on a few factors, like the height of the project, the load weight, and the terrain of the construction site. All-terrain cranes offer maximum flexibility, as they can work with a variety of heights and load weights. For projects with heavy loads, crawler cranes may work best. Truck-mounted cranes, like boom trucks and hydraulic trucks, work well for quicker and more mobile projects.

While all-terrain cranes can handle many types of terrain, rough terrain cranes are particularly useful on construction sites that are thick with mud, laden with rocks and gravel, or otherwise rough and bumpy. Rough terrain cranes are specifically designed to move easily over uneven or tough surfaces (and they give the operator more flexibility and control compared to an all-terrain crane), but they require a heavy haul trailer and an experienced operator to transport them to and from the site.

Rough terrain cranes are built for off-road use with a single engine and four large tires, while all-terrain cranes feature multi-axle steering and two engines. All-terrain cranes can travel at highway speeds, but rough terrain cranes must be transported to and from construction sites using a flatbed trailer. RT cranes are more compact than AT cranes and provide operators with more flexibility and control.
